Programs

Bengal Heritage Archive

Waymark Project currently runs one program, the Bengal Heritage Archive. There are no other programs.

Goal

To help the public, students, researchers and families with roots in Bengal and Bangladesh find and understand reliable historical sources and official family records, for free.

Who it serves

Anyone, anywhere. The site needs no login, membership or fee.

What it offers

  • Catalog and reading room: public-domain books about Bengal published before 1931, with notes on what each contains and how to use it.
  • Explore tools: help placing a village, district or old place name.
  • Records guide and glossary: what family records contain and which official office holds each.
  • Family papers: kept closed. Anything published needs the family's approval.

How it is delivered

Online only, free to read, download and cite. Each entry follows the published checking method, and mistakes are logged in the corrections log.

Standards

What the program will not do

The program is educational. It does not give legal advice, handle fees, original documents or ID numbers, sell anything, or track visitors. The full list is under What we do and don't do, and the rules for rights and privacy are in the standards.
